New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS) Indian Air Force’s legendary fighter pilot and 1965 war hero Air Marshal Denzil Keelor has passed away. His death has sent a wave of grief across the country. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed grief over his demise. He expressed condolences to his family and friends and said that his contribution, courage and dedication to duty will always be remembered. Denzil Keelor was awarded the Kirti Chakra and Vir Chakra. He shot down enemy aircraft and protected the country’s borders.
Jyotiraditya Scindia wrote on social media platform Twitter, “Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of IAF fighter pilot Air Marshal Denzil Keelor. As a Kirti Chakra and Vir Chakra awardee, he defended our country’s borders and shot down enemy aircraft in aerial combat. He was hailed as the hero of the 1965 war.”
He wrote, “I had the honour of knowing Marshal Keelor personally. He commanded the Mirage Base at Maharajpur, Gwalior. His contribution, courage and devotion to duty will always be remembered. I offer my deepest condolences and sympathies to his family and friends in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
Let us tell you that Air Force fighter pilot Denzil Keelor died on Wednesday. He breathed his last at the age of 91. He was living in Gurugram. He is known as a brave pilot. During the 1965 war, he gave a tough fight to Pakistan. For his heroic deeds, he was awarded the Vir Chakra, the third highest bravery award of wartime. Keelor also participated in the 1971 war for the independence of Bangladesh. However, his plane was shot down on 8 December. He was injured in this accident and had to spend the rest of the war in the hospital.
