Jerusalem, Sep 15 (IANS) A long-range surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen fell into Israeli territory on Sunday, Israeli sources said, hitting an uninhabited area near Israel’s international airport outside Tel Aviv.
The missile set off sirens in Tel Aviv and other cities in central Israel, sending people fleeing to safety during the morning rush hour, according to news agency Xinhua.
Magen David Adom of Israel’s National Rescue Service said five people were injured while fleeing to shelters.
There were no changes to the Home Front Command’s defensive guidelines for civilians.
Israel’s state-owned Kan TV news reported that the missile fell in Kfar Daniel, about 6 kilometers from Ben Gurion Airport. The missile caused a fire in the area.
This is the second time a missile from Yemen has reached central Israel. Earlier in July, a drone attack by Houthi rebels killed one person in Tel Aviv.
