Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday claimed that 55 percent of the amount allocated under the ‘Namami Gange’ scheme was not spent, which is proof that Prime Minister Narendra Modi forgot his guarantee of cleaning Ganga and only cheated Maa Ganga in the name of cleanliness.
Kharge posted on ‘X’, “Modi ji said that” Maa Ganga has called him “but the truth is that he has forgotten his guarantee of Ganga cleaning.”
He said, “Namami Gange scheme was launched about 11 years ago, in 2014. The Namami Gange scheme was to use Rs 42,500 crore by March 2026, but the answers to the questions given in Parliament show that only Rs 19,271 crore has been spent by December 2024. That is, the Modi government did not spend 55 percent of the money of Namami Gange scheme.
The Congress President questioned why so much apathy towards mother Ganga?
He said, “In 2015, Modi ji urged our NRI colleagues to contribute to ‘Swachh Ganga Kosh’. As of March 2024, Rs 876 crore was donated in this fund, but 56.7 percent of it has not been used yet. 53 percent of this fund has been donated from government undertakings. ”
Kharge claimed, “An answer given in the Rajya Sabha in November 2024 suggests that 38 percent of Namami Gange’s projects are still pending.” 82 percent of the total allocated funds were to be spent to create sewage trinity plant (STP), but 39 percent STPs have not been completed and those who have been completed are not operational.
According to him, in November 2024, the National Green Tribunal had expressed strong displeasure over the administration’s failure to maintain the cleanliness of the Ganges in Modi ji’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi and suggested that a board should be installed on the banks of the river, which says that Ganga water is not safe for bathing in the city.
He said, “Ganga is life -giving. The culture of India and its spiritual heritage are. ”
Kharge alleged that the Modi government has only cheated the mother Ganga in the name of Ganga cleaning.
