Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid a wreath on monuments dedicated to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and its other Sarsanghchalak MS Golwalkar at Dr. Hedgewar Smriti Mandir in Nagpur.
Modi was accompanied by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, former general secretary of the Sangh, Suresh Bhaiyaji Joshi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were present at the Smriti temple at RSS’s administrative headquarters Reshimbagh. He also met RSS officials at Smriti Bhavan at the memorial and took photographs with them.
Modi wrote on a message book in the Smriti temple that these monuments are dedicated to the values of Indian culture, nationalism and organization.
The Prime Minister wrote in his message, “The memorial of two strong pillars of the RSS is an inspiration for millions of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to the service of the nation.” He said, “I am overwhelmed by coming to the Smriti temple. This place is cherished by the memories of Param Pujya Dr. Hedgewar and Pujya Guruji. ”
Modi has visited this memorial for the first time after becoming Prime Minister. Earlier, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader late Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Dr. Hedgewar Smriti Mandir on 27 August 2000. He was the Prime Minister at that time.
Modi reached the Smriti temple at a time when there is a Pratipada program of the Sangh on Sunday, which is celebrated on the occasion of Gudi Padwa to commemorate the beginning of Hindu New Year.
The Prime Minister also visited Dikshabhoomi in Nagpur on Sunday and paid tribute to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar adopted Buddhism with his followers in 1956 on Deekshabhoomi.
Earlier, Chief Minister Fadnavis, Union Minister Gadkari and BJP’s state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule welcomed him when Modi reached the airport here.
