Bhopal, January 24 (IANS). To commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Goddess Ahilya Bai, a cabinet meeting of Madhya Pradesh government will be held on Friday in Maheshwar, Khargone. In the meeting, a major decision on liquor ban can be taken by the Madhya Pradesh government.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had announced liquor ban in 17 religious towns of the state in a program organized in Narsinghpur district on Thursday. After this announcement, there is every possibility that a final decision on this can be taken in the cabinet meeting. The decision of prohibition is not only expected to bring improvement in the religious urban areas, but it can also prove to be a positive change from the social point of view.
According to sources, the liquor ban may be implemented in Ujjain, Orchha, Salkanpur, Chitrakoot, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Maihar, Amarkantak and Pashupatinath temple area of Mandsaur.
Ujjain and Omkareshwar are Jyotirlinga sites, while Maihar is a Shaktipeeth. Orchha has the Raja Ram Temple, where Lord Ram is worshiped as a king. Maheshwar is one of the most famous religious places in the country and Amarkantak is the place where the Narmada River originates.
In today’s cabinet meeting, Mohan Yadav government will also approve the new excise policy. After several rounds of discussion on this policy, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has decided to ban liquor. In this meeting, after discussing the compensation for revenue loss due to liquor ban in 17 religious cities, approval will be given. Apart from this, new conditions related to auction of liquor shops will also be discussed.
The life of Goddess Ahilyabai is an inspiration in Indian history, so on the occasion of her 300th birth anniversary, the government can announce various schemes to honor her works and contributions.
The cabinet meeting to be held today in Maheshwar is historically very important, because it is taking place after 22 years. Earlier in 2003, during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Uma Bharti, a cabinet meeting was held in Maheshwar. Now after 22 years, this meeting has been organized by Mohan Yadav government in Maheshwar.
