In view of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha has described it as “the general process and the right step in the national interest” regarding the proposed DGMO level meeting. He said that whenever the situation on the Indo-Pak border has become serious, DGMO or core commander level interaction has been taking place and it is helpful in shaping future strategies.
In a special conversation with the news agency IANS, Tankha also spoke openly on the ceasefire. He said that “the ceasefire was in the interest of everyone. If this stress had reached the nuclear level, it would have been very devastating. It would have taken centuries to compensate for such losses.” He insisted that India should move forward on the path of peace and stability. “Priority should be to keep the country safe and lead towards development,” he said.
Tankha tanj on Trump’s ‘mediation’
Vivek Tankha spoke of violation of diplomatic decency, pointing to alleged arbitration by former US President Donald Trump at a ceasefire talks. He said that “even if a country helps in such a situation, it does not make it public. It usually happens through a joint statement, but Trump did a kind of showback by posting a post on social media. Perhaps it was an attempt to show America’s global leadership.”
Indira Gandhi vs Modi: Congress’s historic competition
Vivek Tankha targeted the BJP, appreciating the firmness and decision -making of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He said that “Indira was fearless even when India was not as powerful as today. She did two pieces of Pakistan, while India’s military strength was limited at that time. BJP should appreciate him, because he did what the leaders of today want to do.”
The comment came at a time when the Congress shared a historic post with its official X (East Twitter) handle, in which a statement with the picture of Indira Gandhi and former US President Richard Nixon wrote – “Our spine is straight. We have will power and resources that we can face every atrocity.” The Congress tried to convey the message through this post that India would not bow under any foreign pressure, and the party’s historical leadership is still relevant today.
