The Congress party on Saturday strongly condemned the “brutal murder” of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a leading Hindu community leader in Dinajpur, Bangladesh and described it as a disturbing reflection of increasing insecurity in front of religious minorities in the neighboring country.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh in a post on X highlighted the pattern of harassing violence including vandalism and targeted attacks in temples and urged the Government of India to take immediate diplomatic steps and ensure justice for the victims.
Jairam said, “The Indian National Congress strongly condemns the brutal murder of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a prominent Hindu community leader in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, his tragic death due to the kidnapping and attack reminds him of the growing insecurity in religious minorities in the region.”
He said, “This is not the only incident. In the last few months, there have been frequent and extremely disturbing incidents of attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh, including impurities on Hindu temples to target attacks on homes and businesses of minorities. This pattern of threatening and cruelty cannot be ignored.”
Calling the Government of India to take action, the Congress MP said, “We reiterate our demand that the safety, respect and rights of religious minorities be completely protected in Bangladesh.”
Silence and inaction are not an alternative when such targeted violence is allowed to root out. “
Jairam Ramesh said, “The Indian National Congress is standing in solidarity with the Hindu community and all those who believe in secularism, justice and human rights in Bangladesh.”
