Mendhar (Jammu and Kashmir), September 4 (IANS). Assembly elections are to be held in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases. Voters will cast their votes on September 18 for the first phase. The nomination process for this is going on. On Wednesday, BJP’s Muslim Pahari candidate Murtaza Khan filed his nomination from Mendhar assembly constituency. Before this, he also did a road show in which a large number of his supporters were present with the candidate. BJP state vice-president Sham Lal Sharma was present on this occasion.
Murtaza Khan said that the top leadership of the party showed faith in him. He said that now is the time for elections and we had promised them that we will repay the favour with a favour.
The BJP candidate said, “Two to three weeks are left for the elections now. We will go to the elections with full strength.” On the presence of BJP state vice-president Sham Lal Sharma at the nomination program, he said that he is from the party and before the party, he is “my personal friend”. An MLA from Himachal was also present during the filing of the nomination.
Voting for the second phase in the Union Territory will be held on September 25 and for the third phase on October 1. Counting of votes will be held on October 8. There are a total of 90 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of these, 74 are in general, nine ST and seven SC category. The number of voters is 87.09 lakh. There are 44.46 lakh male and 42.62 lakh female voters. The number of young voters in Jammu and Kashmir is 20 lakh.
According to the Election Commission, there are 87.09 lakh voters in Jammu and Kashmir. Among them, the number of young voters voting for the first time is 3.71 lakh while there are a total of 20.7 lakh young voters, whose age is between 20 and 29 years.
It is noteworthy that assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years. The special thing is that this is the first assembly election after the abolition of Article 370 in the year 2019.
