Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday targeted the opposition RJD-Congress alliance, alleging that people in power before him asked for the votes of Muslims “but failed to stop the communal clashes.
The JD (U) president made this comment at a function, which attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and others. The ceremony was held in Bhagalpur, coincidentally for the most horrific communal riots in Bihar, which took place in 1989, in which around 1,000 people lost their lives.
Kumar alleged, “What was the situation when we came to power in 2005? People were afraid of getting out late in the evening due to poor law and order.” He said without naming a party, “Even Hindu-Muslim clashes were common. Muslim votes did nothing to stop them. Things changed only after the formation of our government here.”
Incidentally, Kumar is also involving a case and punishment against those involved in the Bhagalpur riots under Congress rule in his major achievements. Kumar argues that the culprits were not punished during the 15 -year rule of RJD, which came to power in 1990, as the accused were supporters of the party.
The JDU supremo, whose party is the BJP’s prominent ally at the Center, thanked the PM for the assistance received from the central government and praised the latest budget for Bihar with several announcements. Kumar said, “We have come a long way. The state budget has increased manifold. I thank the PM for his help and hope that his generosity will continue in future also. Bihar under his leadership. Ready to move forward. “
