S. Supongmeren jamir biography: Supangmerran Jamir is a prominent Indian politician in Nagaland. He is currently working as the Speaker of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and is a Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland. He has also been a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly earlier and has contributed to the politics of the state.
Birth and early life
Supangmerran Jamir was born on 25 March 1963 Longsa, Nagaland, mainly in a politically active family associated with the Naga community. His childhood was spent in both the rural and urban environment of Nagaland, which gave him an opportunity to deeply understand the problems of the society. His father’s name
The late Shilumangayang Jamir and mother’s name is the late Alammola Jamir. His wife’s name is Sheelu Jamir. He has a son and three daughters in his child.
Education
He completed his schooling in Nagaland. In 1993, BA LLB degree for higher education was obtained from Mokokchung Law College. After doing this, he specialized in political science and public administration, which helped him develop a deep understanding in politics.
Political journey and achievements
Supangmerran Jamir started his political career with Nagaland Congress. In view of his leadership skills and public support, the party entrusted him with responsibilities in various important positions. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate S.K. Supangmerran Jamir created history by winning the only Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland after 20 years. In which he defeated the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate Dr. Chumben Moori by a margin of 50,984 votes.

This victory is considered to be an important political resurrection for the long -term Congress party in Nagaland. This victory is a major setback for the ruling NDPP-BJP alliance in the state, as regional parties are usually dominated in Nagaland. They have been constantly trying to conserve the culture and traditions of tribal communities in Nagaland. He has a strong and vocal role on issues related to land, resources and traditions and raised his voice several times in Parliament to ensure the rights of tribals.
Environmental protection
He launched several campaigns to prevent deforestation and ecological imbalance in Nagaland. Played an active role in the Tree Plantation Drive and Climate Change Awareness Program locally.
