Jayant Patil, president of the Maharashtra unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP), indicated to resign from the post in the presence of party chief Sharad Pawar. The announcement has been made amidst potential merger between two groups of NCP and speculation of local bodies elections.
At an event organized in Balgandhar Auditorium in Pune on the 26th Foundation Day of the Nationalist Congress Party, Patil said that it is necessary to give new faces a chance. NCP founder Sharad Pawar was also present on the stage.
Patil said, “Pawar Saheb gave me a lot of opportunities. I was entrusted with the responsibility for seven years, but now it is important for the party to give new faces a chance. ”The party workers strongly opposed their decision.
Patil requested the workers to remain calm in an emotional voice amid the emotional appeal to continue in the post of workers. Patil finished his speech and said, “This party belongs to Pawar Saheb, so he should take appropriate decisions.” I thank Pawar Saheb and all the party workers. ”
Addressing the party workers, Pawar said that the discussion and discussion will be held between senior leaders of the party before taking a decision on Jayant Patil’s proposal. Pawar said, Jayant Patil has expressed his wish that new faces should get a chance. You and I should stand with them. I just want to say that we will discuss the proposal with him and all the senior leaders of the party and a collective decision will be taken.
He said that the party should ensure that new faces in every district get opportunities while deciding Jayant Patil. Reacting to the announcement, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar said that the command of the head of the state unit should be handed over to someone who has been working for the party for many years and the background is simple.
The NCP established by Sharad Pawar was divided into July 2023 when his nephew Ajit Pawar joined the then Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government.
