Jharkhand News Desk !! The Soren family has long dominated Jharkhand politics. The influence of the Soren family has spread since the inception of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in 1973. But as time goes by, the Soren family’s hold on power is weakening and it is getting surrounded by controversies. The Soren family has been constantly accused of promoting nepotism in politics. These allegations increase especially when family members hold key positions in power, recently the ouster of Jharkhand state movement veteran Champai Soren has fueled nepotism and power struggles within the JMM. This has raised questions in the minds of many whether the Soren family is focusing more on saving its legacy than on the welfare of Jharkhand?
Land also became the center of Jihad
Champai’s sudden removal from power raises many questions on the Soren family. For more than four decades, Champai Soren was a prominent face of the struggle for Jharkhand statehood. He led the Jharkhand state formation movement. His role was crucial and he emerged as a strong leader who made significant contributions to the movement along with other prominent figures like late Binod Bihari Mahto. Yet despite his contribution, he now stands alone in Champai’s political journey. Champai Soren is today ignored by the same party for which he worked for years without any selfishness. Champai Soren took over the reins of Jharkhand during a tumultuous period and led the coalition government for four months. Although his tenure was brief, he still attempted to stabilize the government and launch welfare schemes aimed at improving the lives of the state’s citizens. But as soon as Shibu Soren’s son Hemant Soren returned from jail, Champai suddenly demanded his resignation and Hemant was restored to power. This power shift was seen by many as a betrayal. The way Champai played a vital role in keeping the party united, especially during challenging times, has been overlooked.
Champai Soren’s sidelining has fuelled speculation and discontent, especially in the Kolhan region, where people are asking: Is it because he is a Soren but not Shibu’s son? BJP’s Mila Kya campaign puts Jharkhand govt in court Family first, Jharkhand later: Soren’s power struggle The Soren family has been criticised for prioritising their own interests over the welfare of Jharkhand. The way Hemant Soren has returned to power so quickly after coming out of jail shows that the party has no respect for alliances and support. He has also humiliated those who had kept the party afloat in his absence.
The monopolistic spirit of the Soren family has alienated many people within and outside the JMM, which has increased discontent among the people of Jharkhand. Both Shibu and Hemant Soren are accused of corruption. This is also disillusioning the public. The allegations of corruption and nepotism have tarnished the image of JMM. Due to which many people are now beginning to believe that the Soren family is more interested in retaining its power and property rather than serving the people of Jharkhand. The sidelining of leaders like Champai Soren reflects not just an internal power struggle but also the issue within the JMM that they feel power in Jharkhand is monopolised by Shibu Soren, who is considered the face of the Jharkhand Movement. But here it is also important to know that the struggle of the statehood movement was a collective effort. Leaders like Binod Bihari Mahto also played a key role in the movement, however, over the years the Soren family has maintained its dominance, effectively hijacking the JMM and turning it into a family party. This monopoly has marginalised other prominent figures and reduced the internal diversity of the party, leading to power being concentrated within a single family.
Growing discontent against JMM in Jharkhand The people of Jharkhand are witnessing the power struggle within JMM, which is increasing their frustration. For years, Soren’s supporters have felt cheated. In such a situation, there is a growing demand among the people for a leadership that prioritizes the development of the state over personal gain. The repeated marginalization of capable leaders like Champai Soren and the persistence of corruption and nepotism have made many people wonder whether Soren is right to lead Jharkhand in the future? Soren’s desire to remain in power at any cost can prove to be detrimental for both his party and Jharkhand. The people of Jharkhand are now tired of the same old game of power. The wall of hope is dwarfed, will Soren finally put the interests of the state above his own? Or will his legacy be one of missed opportunities and unfulfilled promises? Only the results of the Jharkhand elections will be able to reveal this.
