Bengaluru, Sep 23 (IANS) The Bengaluru police have busted a drug smuggling network involving a Nigerian national and his Indian girlfriend in the city. Officials said they have also seized drugs worth over Rs 1.5 crore from the accused.
Officers of the Anti-Narcotics Division attached to the Special Branch of the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted the operation and seized 1.5 grams of MDMA crystals, an electronic weighing machine and three mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
The accused were identified as Michael Dike Okali, 41, a Nigerian national, and his friend Sahana, 25, a resident of Bengaluru.
He was arrested from a house in Yarappanahalli village in Bengaluru Rural district, police said.
Police said that the accused Michael came to India on a business visa in 2018 and rented a house in KR Puram area of Bengaluru.
The second accused, Sahana, was her neighbour and they both had become friends.
Later, Michael involves Sahana in the drug smuggling business.
Police said they started living in a house in Balaji Layout in Yarappanahalli village in Bengaluru Rural and started smuggling drugs from there.
The CCB police had busted a drug smuggling case in July and arrested a man and seized four kilograms of MDMA crystals from him.
Based on the information received from the accused, CCB officials traced the drug smuggling network of Michael and Sahana and arrested them by raiding their residence.
The police had only received information about the accused Michael and were surprised to see his friend Sahana there.
Later after investigation they arrest Sahana.
Michael was earlier booked under the NDPS Act in 2018.
The accused were produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
