New Delhi, September 2 (IANS). Aam Aadmi Party leader and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the ED on Monday in the Delhi Waqf Board case. The AAP MLA is accused of financial irregularities as well as illegal recruitment while being the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board. In this case, the ED raided his house. He opposed the ED action and called it the ‘dictatorship’ of the central government. In his statement, he said that the central government wants to break him and his party by misusing the investigation agencies.
ED arrested Amanatullah Khan after four hours of interrogation. When journalists questioned him about his arrest, he said that I am innocent.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh also reacted sharply to this arrest and said, “This arrest will cost the BJP very dearly. Amanatullah Khan has been arrested without any evidence.”
According to sources, Amanatullah Khan was issued not one or two but 10 summons by the ED, but he ignored all of them. He last appeared for questioning in April.
Note that Amanatullah Khan is not the only Aam Aadmi Party leader who has been arrested, but many AAP leaders have been sent behind bars before this. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s name is prominent among them.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in March in the liquor scam case. The ED had alleged that the Chief Minister had made changes in the Delhi liquor policy to benefit the liquor traders of Delhi, which cannot be accepted at any cost. This case is still pending in the court.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia was the first to be arrested in the Delhi liquor scam case. He was arrested on February 26. The CBI arrested him after a long interrogation of eight hours. The ED had alleged that Sisodia had made several changes in the liquor policy to benefit the liquor businessmen.
The ED arrested Satyendra Jain in May 2022 in the hawala transaction case. Jain was questioned by the investigating agency in the excise policy case. Jain is still in Tihar Jail.
