The US has imposed 25 percent tariff on India which is applicable from today. After this tariff, India and the US relations have become even more strong. Today we tell you about some similar incidents of history when India had to face pressure from America. Please tell that under the leadership of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the US was put on diplomatic and strategic pressure. But India did not bow down to that threat.
America threatened to stop wheat
During the Indo-Pak war in 1965, there was a major food crisis in India. During that time, US President Lyndon Johnson had threatened that wheat would be stopped if the war did not stop. But Lal Bahadur Shastri insisted on self -reliance by giving the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. He called upon the countrymen to give up a time of food, which reduced the US pressure. This strategy of Shastri ji not only united the public, but also gave a message to the US that India would talk on its own terms. Lal Bahadur Shastri had said that if America wants to stop wheat, then stop, we do not care.
Indira Gandhi replied
Former Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi, put diplomatic pressure on the US during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. When the US tried to threaten India by sending the seventh fleet to the Bay of Bengal, Indira ji responded with the Soviet Union by performing a friendship with the Soviet Union. Indira Gandhi gave a befitting reply to America during that time. His persistence forced America to back down and India played a decisive role in Bangladesh’s independence. In addition, in 1974, the Pokhran-1 nuclear test established India as a nuclear power, causing the US to reconsider its strategic relations with India.
During the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Pokhran-2 nuclear test in 1998 was India’s biggest diplomatic move led by Atal ji. But this provoked America. America’s sanctions included stopping weapons, preventing financial assistance and providing obstacles in providing financial assistance to India. But India showed firmness. India said that these tests are necessary for national security, especially in view of its nuclear -rich neighbors. India talked to the US and eventually the US realized that the policy of pressurizing India had failed.
