Dangerous serial killer Devendra Sharma, popularly known as ‘Doctor Death’ across the country, has been arrested by Delhi Police from Dausa district of Rajasthan. The arrest took place after a year -long search, in which the killer was caught from an ashram. There he was living in disguise as a priest by fake name. The police has brought him to Delhi.
According to the information, 67 -year -old Devendra Sharma was an Ayurveda doctor, but he moved into the world of crime in the mid -1990s. Indulged in serious crimes like murder, kidnapping and human organ trafficking. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment in seven different cases in Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana and death penalty in one case.
DCP (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam said that Devendra Sharma was involved in the brutal killings of several taxis and truck drivers between 2002 and 2004. He, along with his comrades, used to call drivers on the pretext of fake trip, then murdered them and sold their vehicles in the gray market. He used to throw the dead bodies into the canal to erase the evidence.
He kills people and makes crocodile food
A large number of crocodiles are present in the Hazara Canal in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh. They used to make those corpses their food. According to the police, at least 27 criminal cases are registered against serial killer Devendra Sharma. He first came into the limelight due to running illegal kidney transplant racket between 1998 and 2004.
More than 125 illegal kidney transplantation
He admitted that he had done more than 125 illegal kidney transplants with the help of doctors and middlemen. His entry into the world of crime occurred in 1994 after suffering heavy losses from a failed gas dealership. He then started fake gas agency. In the guise of this, he started smuggling illegal human organs.
21 taxi drivers accused of murder
In 2004, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in the case of murder of a taxi driver in Jaipur. In March 2007, the ADJ Court of Faridabad, along with two of his colleagues, found him guilty of killing a taxi driver named Kamal Singh. He was accused of killing 21 taxi drivers. On 14 May 2008, a Gurgaon court sentenced him to death for the murder of a taxi driver named Naresh Verma.
Absconding after getting two months of parole
Devendra Sharma was first arrested in 2004. But this is not the first time he escaped after being released from jail. He also escaped for seven months after he was released on parole in 2020. He was later arrested in Delhi. In June 2023, he was given two months parole in another case.
He was living in the ashram as a spiritual guru
He did not return to jail after August 3, 2023. A police officer said that a large -scale campaign was launched in cities like Aligarh, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra and Prayagraj to search for Devendra Sharma. He was eventually caught in an ashram in Dausa, where he was living as a spiritual guru with false identity.
Responsible for more than 50 murders
Police suspect that he may be responsible for more than 50 murders. The police team constituted to arrest the serial killer was led by Delhi Police Inspector Anuj and Inspector Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Police Commissioner Umesh Barthwal and Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Gautam.
