A big relief has come out on the power generation front in Rajasthan. The mining work has started in the Parsa coal mine of Chhattisgarh with the strong will of the state government and the cooperation of the central government. This will ensure permanent and adequate supply of coal to Rajasthan’s thermal power plants. Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar shared this information on Friday. He said that this is an important step towards providing uninterrupted coal supply to the power stations of the state.
Power crisis background in Rajasthan
In the last few years, Rajasthan has faced many challenges in electricity demand and production. The demand for electricity in the state is continuously increasing, but due to lack of coal to thermal power plants, the production capacity was not being fully used. In the summer season, power cuts and demand supply intervals remained a matter of concern for the state.
Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar said that the state government took it seriously and started active efforts to smooth the supply of coal. The mining process in Parsa mine of Chhattisgarh under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma started in March 2025. This is now expected to remove the shortage of coal in the electric houses of Rajasthan.
Result of joint initiative of central and state government
The Energy Minister said that by coordinating with the Government of Chhattisgarh and the Central Government, the Rajasthan government ensured that mining in Parsa mine could start soon. Earlier, three mines were allotted in Chhattisgarh by the Ministry of Coal, the Rajasthan State Electricity Generation Corporation Limited (RVUNL), the first of which was coming from the ‘Parsa East and Kanta Basan (PEKB)’ mine. Now the ‘Parsa’ mine has also become active.
Description and role of all three mines
Parsa East and Kanta Basan (Pekb):
This mine has been supplying coal to Rajasthan for a long time.
Coal has been sent regularly from here, but due to increasing demand, it was proving insufficient.
Parsa mine:
Mining started from March 2025.
This will provide additional relief to thermal power plants of Rajasthan.
Kented Extension Block:
Mining has not started yet.
But the state government is constantly talking to the Center and the Government of Chhattisgarh to start it soon.
Energy Minister Nagar expressed confidence that the supply of coal will start in the near future even with Kentay Extension. This will give new energy to power generation in Rajasthan.
Increasing coal requirement in Rajasthan and impact on electrical projects
The Rajasthan State Electricity Generation Corporation has an established thermal production capacity of 4340 MW. A sufficient amount of coal is necessary for uninterrupted power generation of these plants. This fulfills the electricity requirements of industrial sector, agriculture and domestic consumers. If the supply of coal is hindered, power generation is affected and as a result the power crisis arises in the entire state. Recently, the demand for electricity in the state has been at its peak. This demand increases in the summer season. In such a situation, the supply of coal from Parsa and Kented Extension mines can prove to be a game changer for the state. This will make maximum use of production capacity possible and ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity.
Appreciation of Bhajanlal government’s efforts
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has given priority to the energy sector in the first tenure of his government. He has given clear instructions to the Department of Energy that there should be no decrease in supply of coal and power generation. Under his activism and leadership, mining work from Parsa mine could start soon. Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar said that “Keeping in mind the energy needs of the state, the government has given the top priority to ensure coal supply. Under the Chief Minister, it was possible to start mining in Parsa mine by coordinating with the Central Government and the Government of Chhattisgarh.” The people of Rajasthan now hope that the power crisis will be a matter of the past and all areas will continue to get uninterrupted electricity.
Role of environment and local communities
With the commencement of coal mining from Parsa mine of Chhattisgarh, environmental issues have also come up. However, the Rajasthan government claims that mining work is being done by following all environmental standards. Local communities have also been assured by the state government and mining companies that their rights and interests will be protected. The tribal population of Surguja region in Chhattisgarh has already agitated against these mines. In such a situation, it will be important to see how governments communicate with the local people and solve their concerns.
Plans and strategies for coming time to come
The Rajasthan government’s plan is to move towards self -sufficiency in the energy sector in the state in the near future. The government is also planning a big investment in the field of solar and wind energy. But currently it is a priority to ensure permanent supply of coal to thermal plants. Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar said that “Rajasthan will not only meet its energy requirements in the coming years, but can also emerge as an energy exporting state. For this, power generation will be increased from every source.”
Conclusion: New chapter in energy sector
Recently taken steps on the supply of coal in the power stations of Rajasthan are definitely going to write a new chapter in the energy sector of the state. The introduction of mining in Parsa mine and soon getting coal from Kenta Extension Block will be helpful in extending energy to self -sufficiency. The activeness of the Bhajanlal government and the energy picture of Rajasthan with the cooperation of the Center and the Government of Chhattisgarh is now positive. People of Rajasthan can now expect that there will be relief from the problem of power cuts and there will be no obstruction in industrial development, agricultural generation and domestic power supply.
