NTK chief Seeman criticizes superstar Vijay's 'Dravidian' comment

Chennai, November 2 (IANS). Noted actor, director and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman, who is staunch for Tamil nationalism, has strongly criticized Tamil superstar and politician Vijay’s “Dravidian” remarks.

Seeman has strongly criticized Vijay for his remarks made during a public event in Vikkaravandi on October 27. Vijay described his party’s ideology as a mix of Dravidian and Tamil nationalism.

Seeman said that such ideological mixing is inconsistent. He said, “This is very wrong, brother.”

Seeman said, “Either stand on that side or this side, standing in the middle risks being crushed.”

Seeman, a strong supporter of Tamil nationalism, emphasized that those committed to the cause could face opposition from their own families if they were not equally committed.

Condemning Vijay’s stance on Dravidism, he said it was contrary to Tamil nationalism, language and culture.

Seeman said he has been politically engaged in the struggles of the Tamil people, while others have learned politics from comfortable, air-conditioned rooms.

He said, “There must be fire in the heart. If there is fire then the spark will come out in the form of words. Our words reflect the pain that our people have endured for thousands of years.”

More than 300,000 people attended Vijay’s event at Vikkaravandi, marking a significant moment in Tamil Nadu politics.

During the rally, Vijay criticized both DMK and BJP and described BJP as his ideological opponent and DMK as his political opponent.

He accused the DMK of being a family-dominated party that uses the Dravidian word for personal gains and condemned the divisive politics of the BJP.

DMK leader and state law minister S. Raghupathi hit back, terming Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) as the “C team” of the BJP.

BJP Tamil Nadu spokesperson ANS Prasad suggested that Vijay should give priority to the welfare of the people rather than inflaming political passions.

He encouraged Vijay to recognize the support he received from various political parties, including the BJP, at the beginning of his political journey.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu local body elections, Vijay’s fan club All India Thalapathi Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI) won 115 of the 169 seats, while Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman’s NTK secured no seats.

This success has further increased Vijay’s political stature.
