The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday alleged that the government led by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has “failed on every front” and is visible only on paper.
“It has been almost three months since the National Conference government came to power but it has failed on every front,” BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit spokesperson Altaf Thakur said at a press conference here. They have failed to fulfill their guarantees like 12 free gas cylinders, 200 units of free electricity, 10 kg rice, one lakh jobs and regularization of daily wage labourers. The party had mentioned these in its manifesto.
Referring to the snowfall in the plains of the valley including Srinagar last week, Thakur said, “There has been light snowfall but the link roads remain closed for the fourth day today.”
Thakur accused the Chief Minister of going back on his promises. He said, “It has been the tradition of Abdullah and NC governments to go back on their words. When they were out of power, they used to say that we will throw meters (electricity) in Tawi (river) in Jammu and Jhelum (river) in Kashmir. But now that they are in power, they are saying that 24-hour electricity will be available only when the meter installation work is 100 percent completed.
The BJP spokesperson asked Abdullah to live up to the expectations of the people and said that people have a lot of expectations from him. On BJP’s performance in Kashmir, Thakur said that the assembly elections were held in a peaceful atmosphere without any violence or fear. He said, “The BJP government has put the last nail in the coffin of terrorism in Kashmir and today Kashmir is terrorism free.”
