Srinagar, Sep 8 (IANS) National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in which he blamed the National Conference for the rise of terrorism in the valley.
Omar Abdullah said, “If any organisation has made sacrifices against terrorism, it is the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. I feel sorry when the Home Minister (Wazir-e-Dakhila Sahib) says such things. There can be differences (political differences) among themselves, but it is wrong to distort the reality in this way. Where I am standing, for the candidate for whom I am seeking votes, do I have to remind him again about the sacrifices of that house? Many houses here have fallen victim to terrorism. Thousands of workers of the National Conference, our senior colleagues, our ministers, our MLAs, MLCs have sacrificed? Do I have to remind the Home Minister of this?”
He said, “As far as terrorism is concerned, I know that he has said in his speech that if the National Conference comes to power, terrorism will increase. I would like to remind him to look at the six years of my rule. For six years, the graph of terrorism kept falling continuously. If we compare it with the last six years, the graph of terrorism has been increasing. The current government has given a new start to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Today you are seeing terrorism increasing in the valley in a new way.”
He said, “I can tell you about many such districts. For example, Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, where the effect of terrorism is being seen. If anyone is failing to fight terrorism, then it is the current government and in the coming days when our government comes, we will change this situation again.”
