‘One Nation, One Election’: The first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed on ‘One Nation, One Election’ was held on Wednesday. In this meeting, BJP members appreciated the proposal, while members of opposition parties criticized holding simultaneous elections in the entire country. At the same time, officials of the Ministry of Law and Justice informed the panel members about the provisions of the proposed laws. Along with this, a detailed report of 18 thousand pages has been handed over to the JPC members in a blue suitcase. During this, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has raised questions on the bills for holding simultaneous elections. With this he has rejected the argument that this will save money.

During the meeting, Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) member and National General Secretary of Congress and Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has raised questions on the argument being given regarding low expenditure on ‘one country, one election’. He said that the figures of election expenditure being given are before 2004, when EVMs were not introduced. He asked how much money would be saved by this? How can you say that this will reduce expenses?

SP called the bill a conspiracy

Samajwadi Party leader and JPC member Dharmendra Yadav has termed ‘one country, one election’ as a conspiracy against regional parties. TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee has also opposed this bill. He said that for us, protecting democratic rights is more important than reducing expenditure.

At the same time, in the meeting, BJP and the government have argued in favor of ‘one country, one election’. It was said in the meeting that elections are held at different times in the states, this hinders the pace of development. Besides this, the expenditure also becomes exorbitant.

These are the committee members

Let us tell you that Bharatiya Janata Party MP PP Chaudhary is the chairman of the 39-member Joint Parliamentary Committee. MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Congress, Sanjay Jha from JD(U), Shrikant Shinde from Shiv Sena, Sanjay Singh from AAP and Kalyan Banerjee from Trinamool Congress, Dharmendra Yadav from SP, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Purushottam Rupala, Manish Tiwari, Anil Baluni. , Bansuri Swaraj and Sambit Patra, among many other MPs, are also members of the committee.

These two bills were introduced

It is noteworthy that during the last winter session, the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill regarding ‘One Country, One Election’ were introduced in the Lok Sabha. After this, they were sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), the first meeting of which took place today.
