Only those with more than two children will be allowed to contest local body elections: Andhra Chief Minister

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said a person can become a sarpanch, municipal councilor or mayor only if he has more than two children. He indicated that this would prevent population decline.

Naidu said he would bring policies to encourage people to have more children.

“At one time, persons with more children were not allowed to contest panchayat (elections) or local body elections. Now I am saying that persons with less children cannot contest elections,” he told reporters at Naravaripalle here recently. You will become Sarpanch, Municipal Councilor, Corporation President or Mayor only if you have more than two children.”

According to the Chief Minister, North India may lose the advantage of stable fertility rates in about 15 years.

The TDP supremo said that people of the older generation used to have more children, while the current generation has reduced it to one child. He also highlighted that nowadays some ‘smart’ people are adopting the concept of Dual Income, No Children (DINK) for fun.

He said, “Your parents had four to five children and you reduced them to one. Now even more sensible people are saying that double income, without children, we can have fun. If their parents “If his father had thought like him, he would not have come into this world.”

Naidu said that all countries have made this mistake and we have to take a decision at the right time. He said the importance of having more children was not emphasized and the situation got out of control.

Citing countries like South Korea, Japan and continental Europe, he said that people in those places do not realize the threat of population decline but are only focused on wealth creation, increasing income and taking those countries forward.

“Now they need people, we have to send them. We have come to that situation,” Naidu said.

Earlier this month, Naidu had expressed concern over the falling birth rate, saying India should not repeat the mistakes made by other countries like South Korea and Japan, where the birth rate has fallen drastically.

The Chief Minister said that nowadays some couples have started shying away from having children because they do not want to share their earnings among themselves and do not want to use that money for their own pleasure. In October last year, Naidu had said that there is a need for population management in Andhra Pradesh, as the number of elderly people will increase here.

Naidu had said, “Till 2047 we will have a demographic dividend, there will be more young people. After 2047 there will be more old people… If less than two children are born (per woman) then the population will reduce. If you (each woman) If women give birth to more than two children, the population will increase.”
