New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) The e-auction of gifts and mementos received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi began on Tuesday and will continue till October 2.
More than 600 gifts and souvenirs are being auctioned online by the Union Culture Ministry. “This extraordinary collection reflects the rich fabric of the country’s culture, spirituality, history and politics,” Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat told the media on Monday.
Persons interested to participate in the e-auction can participate by registering through the official website – https://pmmementos.gov.in/.
A poignant portion of the auction is dedicated to India’s valiant warriors and freedom fighters, celebrating the glorious chapters of the country’s history. A key feature of the auction is sports memorabilia from the Paralympic Games, 2024.
This is the sixth edition of the successful auction series of Prime Minister’s souvenirs. The first edition was launched in January 2019. More than Rs 50 crore has been raised so far in five editions.
The Minister said that like the previous editions, this time too, the proceeds from the auction will be given to the Namami Gange Project, a flagship initiative of the Central Government dedicated to the conservation and rejuvenation of River Ganga and protecting its fragile ecosystem.
The items on auction include a range of traditional art, showcasing vibrant paintings, intricate sculptures, indigenous handicrafts and fascinating folk and tribal artifacts. These treasures include many items traditionally given as a symbol of respect and honour, including traditional angavastras, shawls, headgear and ceremonial swords.
