The Congress on Thursday said that the Pahalgam terror attack caused by the conspiracy by Pakistan is a direct attack on the values of the Indian Republic, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is taking advantage of this serious tragedy and promoting polarization and division.
The party also said after its functioning committee meeting that extensive analysis of those intelligence failures and security flaws should be done, which led to such an attack in the Union Territory.
In the meeting of the Working Committee, it was decided that the all -party meeting to be held on Thursday evening after the Pahalgam terror attack will include the Leader of the Houses of both the Houses of Parliament.
The Congress has also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should preside over this meeting. After the meeting, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal read the resolution passed by the Working Committee during a conversation with reporters.
The proposal states, “The Working Committee expresses deep concern over the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, in which 26 innocent tourists lost their lives and more than 20 others were seriously injured. The Working Committee expresses its deep condolences to the bereaved families. It stands with them with full heart in this hour.”
The Working Committee said that this cowardly act of terror created by Pakistan is a direct attack on the values of the Indian Republic.
The committee said, “Hindus were deliberately targeted to incite emotions across the country. We appeal to peace in front of this serious provocation and repeat our collective power under adverse circumstances.”
The proposal states that the CWC appeals for peace and confirms the long -term resolution of the Indian National Congress to fight terrorism across the border with determination and unity.
The Congress Working Committee said, “To showcase the collective willpower of the nation, the Indian National Congress had urged to call an all -party meeting under the chairmanship of the Honorable Prime Minister on the night of 22nd. This meeting has now been scheduled for today.”
The Working Committee said, “Pahalgam is known as a heavy security area, where there is a three -tier security system. It is necessary that intelligence failures and safety flaws should be done extensively, due to which such an attack was carried out in the Union Territory – this area comes directly under the scope of the Union Home Ministry.”
The committee said, “These questions should be raised in widespread public interest. This is the only way that can actually be seen getting justice to families whose life has been so brutally destroyed.”
The proposal said that the CWC considered this and said that millions of pilgrims from across India participate in this annual journey and their safety should be considered a national priority.
The Working Committee said, “Strong, transparent and active security arrangements should be implemented without any delay. Security of pilgrims, as well as the livelihood of the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be protected with full honesty and seriousness. Many people depend on tourism there.”
He said, “This massacre has been properly condemned by all political parties and citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Working Committee claimed that the BJP is taking advantage of this serious tragedy through official and representative social media forums, promoting discord, mistrust, polarization and division at a time when unity and solidarity are most needed.
The Working Committee said that in the meeting, he was paid tribute to those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack by keeping silence for two minutes.
Venugopal said that in the all -party meeting, the two leaders from the Congress are going to the meeting Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are going to the meeting.
After the meeting, senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir claimed that there is also a question of security and intelligence failure over the Pahalgam attack.
He said, “There is news that some information was already there. In such a situation, our agencies and people associated with security should have been more vigilant. This is our concern.” Mir said that there was not as much security as it used to be earlier.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, party parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and several other members of the Working Committee were present in this meeting held at the party’s old headquarters “24 Akbar Road”.
After this attack, Rahul Gandhi reached home after canceling his visit to America and attended the meeting.
Terrorists opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 people. Most of the people killed in this terrorist attack were tourists.
