Priyanka Gandhi: This time the winter session of Parliament was in the headlines, and something new was seen every day in this session. While on one hand incidents like scuffles and bag politics attracted attention, on the other hand Priyanka Gandhi reaching Parliament with a new bag every day became the center of discussion. Sometimes a bag with ‘Palestine’ and sometimes ‘Bangladesh’ written on it was seen in his hands, which became a symbol of political messages. Meanwhile, BJP MP from Odisha Aparajita Sarangi gave a special bag to Priyanka Gandhi on which ‘1984’ was written. With this bag, BJP took a new turn in politics. Aparajita told that she had specially prepared this bag in response to the messages being given through Priyanka’s bag.
Priyanka accepted the bag
‘1984’ written on the bag and its blood-stained design were reminiscent of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Priyanka Gandhi initially showed hesitation in taking the bag, but later accepted it. Aparajita described this as a step reminding Congress of its past mistakes and that painful period. He said, just as Priyanka Gandhi is giving the message through her bag, in the same way I have given her this bag, so that Congress remembers its history.
Seeing the blood-stained design of this bag once again brought to light the painful incident of the 1984 Delhi anti-Sikh riots, when after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, violence broke out against Sikhs and thousands of innocent Sikhs lost their lives. Describing it as a symbol of Congress’s atrocities, Aparajita said, this bag has been given to highlight the past of Congress. Although Priyanka Gandhi accepted this bag, she did not react to it. This incident points to another new phase of politics in Parliament.
