Exactly 23 years ago today, on 13 December 2001, the Parliament House, which is considered a symbol of democracy in the country, was attacked by terrorists. Our soldiers displayed alertness and foiled this attack. However, 8 of our policemen were martyred in this nefarious attack. On this occasion, all the MPs will pay tribute to the brave sons in the Parliament House on Friday. At the same time, President Draupadi Murmu paid tribute to the brave men who sacrificed their lives in the Parliament attack and said that the nation is united against the terrorist forces.

Posting on social media, the President wrote that I pay my humble tribute to those heroes who sacrificed their lives protecting our Parliament on this day in 2001. Their courage and selfless service will continue to inspire us. The nation will always be grateful to them and their families. On this day, I reiterate India’s unwavering resolve to fight terrorism, our country stands united against terrorist forces.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also said that the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the terrorist attack will always inspire people to serve the nation. While sharing the post on ‘X’, Dhami also wrote that we pay our respects to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament, a symbol of democracy. Your devotion to duty, indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice are proof of your unwavering loyalty towards the nation. The story of your bravery will always inspire us to serve the nation. The tribute meeting reminded everyone of the horrific terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament on 13 December 2001.

Let us tell you that on December 13, 2001, Delhi Police constables Jagdish, Matabar, Kamlesh Kumari, Nanak Chand and Rampal, Delhi Police head constables Om Prakash, Bijendra Singh and Ghanshyam and CPWD gardener Deshraj were protecting the Parliament during the terrorist attack. Had sacrificed his life. The attack took place when five terrorists in a white Ambassador car entered the Parliament complex from Gate No. 12 of the Parliament House at around 11.30 am on 13 December 2001. As soon as they heard the sound of bullets, CRPF soldiers started retaliating. At the time of the terrorist attack, many ministers, MPs and journalists including the then Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani were present in the Parliament.
