Earlier, a meeting of floor leaders of INDIA alliance was held in the chamber of Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge. Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was also present in this meeting. The issues to be raised in the Parliament session were discussed in the meeting.

Let us tell you that before the third day of Parliament action, Congress demanded discussion on Adani indictment in Parliament. Congress MPs Manickam Tagore, Randeep Singh Surjewala and Manish Tewari moved an adjournment notice in this regard before the commencement of the session today.

In a notice addressed to the Lok Sabha Secretary General today, Congress MP Manickam Tagore said, “I inform you of my intention to seek permission to move a motion for adjournment of the House to discuss a definite matter of urgent importance.”

The notice said, “The recent indictment by the US against Gautam Adani for accepting bribes amounting to over $265 million for solar energy deals and securities fraud has cast a dark shadow on the Adani Group. But the silence of the Modi government raises concerns about India’s integrity and global reputation. Prime Minister Modi should answer questions about his friendship with Adani.”

The letter further said, “The Andhra Pradesh government is reportedly considering canceling its solar power deal with the SECI over allegations that Adani has paid a bribe of Rs 21,750 crore to the Jagan Mohan Reddy government. Demand immediate discussion on the allegations and a CBI investigation.”

Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also issued a notice on the same subject and said, “I propose to move the following motion for suspension of listed business for November 27, 2024, under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Rajya Sabha.” This House suspends all scheduled business to discuss serious revelations in US court’s indictment alleging that Adani Group secured power supply agreements through SECI tenders. involved in bribing state officials.”

“These allegations point to systemic corruption in public procurement processes and highlight serious regulatory lapses in ensuring fair competition,” the notice said. The indictment also includes allegations of erosion of institutional integrity, misuse of public sector entities and the likes of SEBI. “Serious concerns have also been raised by the regulatory bodies about the lack of transparency in the transactions under its Chairman, Madhabi Puri Buch.”

“This matter requires urgent consultation with a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to examine the impact of these allegations on governance, public accountability and the credibility of India’s democratic institutions,” it said.

Surjewala has also given an adjournment notice in Rajya Sabha under Rule 267 to discuss the issue of impeachment of Gautam Adani.

Congress MP Manish Tewari also moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha and sought a discussion on “following the two prosecutions against Adani Group in the US, the impact on India as a business destination and the strengthening of our regulatory and oversight processes”.

However, earlier in the day, Adani Group, in a filing to stock exchanges, filed a complaint with the US Justice Department and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against group founder and chairman Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and Adani Green Energy MD and CEO Vineet Jain. Denied allegations of alleged bribery made by.

In its filing, AGEN has termed the news reporting on alleged bribery and corruption allegations against Adani officials as ‘inaccurate’.

A statement issued by Adani Green Energy Limited said, “Media articles have stated that some of our directors Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Vineet Jain have been charged in the indictment with violating the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). “Such statements are wrong.” “Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Vineet Jain have not been charged with any violations of the FCPA under the sections set forth in the US Department of Justice indictment or the US SEC civil complaint,” the statement said.

In a legal prosecution, a count refers to the individual charges brought against the defendant. The filing said the Justice Department’s indictment, which contains five charges, makes no mention of Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani or Vineet Jain and excludes them from the first charge:

“Conspiracy to Violate the FCPA”; Nor does it mention these three names in the fifth section: “Conspiracy to obstruct justice.” The first section of the indictment, which refers to corruption and bribery charges, names only Ranjit Gupta, Cyril Cabanes, Saurabh Agarwal, Deepak Malhotra and Rupesh Agarwal of Azure Power and the CDPQ (Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec), a Canadian institutional regulator. Investors and the largest shareholders of Azure are included.

The statement said Adani executives have been charged only under Section 2: “Conspiracy to commit alleged securities fraud,” Section 3: “Conspiracy to commit alleged wire fraud,” and Section 3: “Conspiracy to commit alleged securities fraud.” The Justice Department’s indictment contains no evidence that Adani officials paid bribes to Indian government officials; The indictment and complaint are based only on the claim that a bribe was promised or discussed.

Adani Group is one of India’s largest infrastructure companies, with major operations in the global energy and logistics sector. Over the past few years, Indian conglomerates have been expanding their operations in international markets and competing directly with several American and Chinese entities in Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Israel, Australia, etc.

Since the US Justice Department reported the indictment, the group has lost about US$55 billion in the market capitalization of its 11 listed companies.
