PM Modi has always respected former Prime Ministers: Neeraj Shekhar

New Delhi, December 28 (IANS). On Congress’s demand for a separate memorial for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Neeraj Shekhar said that first of all I want to pay tribute to the former PM. This is a personal loss for me. Former PM Manmohan Singh was very close to my father, there was a good rapport between the two. I feel sad, because any former Prime Minister does not belong to any party but to the entire nation and today the entire nation is in mourning after the demise of Manmohan Singh.

He said that if politics is being done on this, then it cannot be more unfortunate than this. As far as our government is concerned, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been giving respect to the former Prime Ministers. I could never have imagined that my father’s museum would be built in Delhi. The Museum of Former Prime Ministers is in Teen Murti. The Union Home Minister has said that full respect will be given. Seven days of mourning was declared. Everyone in BJP respects him. The Home Minister has said that a grand memorial of the former PM will be built. But I feel sad that politics is being played on this issue today. I think the top leadership of Congress should avoid this politics.

Allegations are also being made by Congress regarding cremation of former PM at Nigambodh Ghat. When the BJP MP was asked to comment on this, he said that it is unfortunate. Because, when the Home Minister has said that a grand memorial of the former PM will be built, then why the allegations. I think we should not go into history. As far as memorials are concerned, a memorial should be built for every former Prime Minister, so that the young generation of the country can know about them.
