Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Vizhinjam International Deepwatter Multiper Citport’, built at a cost of Rs 8,900 crore in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor were also present on the occasion. The project has been developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) under a public-private partnership (PPP).
Addressing the public meeting after the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi said, “Vizhinjam port is a symbol of the development of the new era. This port is a place where countless ocean opportunities and beauty of nature are found. The port is built at a cost of Rs 8,800 crore and in the near future its transpiration hub will be tripled. This port is designed to adjust to the large carvantic ships, which will be designed to adjust large carvant 75% of transmission activities will now be able to operate at domestic ports instead of abroad. “
He added, “Before slavery, our India had seen prosperity for thousands of years, in which Kerala had a special contribution. India’s impressive maritime capabilities and the role of ports made our economy a global leader at that time. Today, the central government has taken important steps in making waterways, railways, reactions and connectivity under the Sagarmala Project under the Sagarmala Project.”
The Prime Minister said that the number of sailors in India has increased from 1.25 lakh to 3.25 lakhs in 2014. Along with this, India is today among the top three countries with the most sailors in the world. In the last decade, India has doubled the capacity of its ports and expanded the waterways eight times. Thus, India has made its place in the top 20 countries in global ship construction.
Prime Minister Modi said that the construction of the infrastructure promotes trade as well as meets the basic needs of the common citizen, which is a symbol of true development. The government has also successfully completed the pending projects like Kollam bypass and Alpujha bypass. Along with this, the operation of Vande Bharat trains was also started in Kerala, which is an important step towards promoting the connectivity and modernization of the region. The project is an important step towards creating large economic and developmental opportunities for both Kerala and India.
