Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that many struggles of the world arise from taking overwhelming stance rather than a balanced approach and the solution to such challenges lies in the teachings of Lord Buddha.
He stressed on adopting the medium route and avoiding extremism, saying that the principle of restraint is still relevant and provides guidance in dealing with global challenges.
Addressing the fourth version of the global Hindu-Buddhist initiative ‘Samvad’ held in Thailand to avoid the conflict, Modi said that the shared tradition of Asia inherent in Dhamma’s principles responds to the world to struggle with the crisis. .
He said, “Many issues in the world arise by adopting extreme stance rather than a balanced approach. Extreme attitude gives rise to health problems related to conflict, environmental crisis and even stress.
The Prime Minister said, “The solution to such challenges lies in the teachings of Lord Buddha. He urged us to adopt a medium route and avoid extremism. The principle of restraint is still relevant today and provides guidance in dealing with global challenges. ”
Modi said that today struggles are moving beyond people and nations and humanity is growing rapidly in struggle with nature.
He said, “This has created an environmental crisis which has become a threat to our earth.” The answer to this challenge lies in the common traditions of Asia, which lies in the principles of Dhamma. Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism and other Asian traditions teach us to live in harmony with nature. We consider ourselves not separate from nature but a part of it. ”
The Prime Minister said that while using natural resources for progress today, we should also consider our responsibility towards future generations.
He said, “This approach ensures that resources are used for development, not for greed.”
Referring to mentioning that this version of the dialogue is hosting a religious round table conference, in which various religious leaders are coming together, they expressed confidence that valuable insights would emerge from the platform, which would shape a more harmonious world.
Praising the host country Thailand for rich culture, history and heritage, Modi insisted that Thailand is a beautiful example of Asia’s shared philosophical and spiritual traditions.
Underlining deep cultural relations between India and Thailand for more than two thousand years, he said that Ramayana and Ramakian connect both countries and their reverence for Lord Buddha units.
Citing Buddha, he said that the principle of restraint is still relevant, which provides guidance in facing global challenges.
He mentioned a lively partnership in many regions between the two countries and said that India’s ‘Act East’ policy and Thailand’s ‘Act West’ policy complement each other.
The Prime Minister said that another reason for the struggle is to consider others fundamentally different from themselves.
He said, “Differences give rise to distances and distances can turn into discord.”
To compete this, he cited a verse in Dhammapada, stating that everyone is afraid of pain and death.
The Prime Minister mentioned that he is from Vadnagar in Gujarat and represents Varanasi in Parliament. He said that it is a beautiful coincidence that places associated with Lord Buddha have shaped his journey.
He said, “Our reverence for Lord Buddha is reflected in the policies of the Government of India.”
Modi said that India has developed tourism infrastructure to connect important Buddhist sites as part of the Buddhist circuit.
He also highlighted the inauguration of the ‘Buddha Purnima Express’ special train and pilgrims for the benefit of pilgrims for the convenience of traveling on this circuit.
The Prime Minister also announced various development initiatives to increase the infrastructure of Bodh Gaya and invited pilgrims, scholars and monks from all over the world to come to India.
In his speech, Modi said that Nalanda Mahavihara was one of the greatest universities of history and was destroyed by the struggling forces centuries ago.
The Prime Minister said that India has shown its commitment by reviving it as a education center. He expressed confidence that Nalanda University will regain its former pride.
He highlighted cooperation with many countries in the last decade to promote the important steps taken to promote Pali and promote Lord Buddha’s teachings.
