Mumbai, October 13 (IANS). State leaders have expressed grief over the murder of senior Nationalist Congress Party leader and businessman Baba Ziauddin Siddiqui. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed the police to take strict action against the killers.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, CM Shinde said that two accused were arrested by the police. One is from Uttar Pradesh and one from Haryana. The third accused is absconding. “I have directed the police to take strict action,” he said.
NCP national president and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, “The incident of firing on NCP leader, former minister and my colleague Baba Siddiqui, who has been in the legislature for a long time, is extremely unfortunate, condemnable and painful. I am shocked. I strongly condemn this cowardly attack.”
He said that the incident will be thoroughly investigated and strict action will be taken against the attackers. The mastermind behind the attack will also be caught.
He said, “With the demise of Baba Siddiqui, we have lost a good leader, who fought for the minority brothers and strived for interfaith harmony. His demise is a big loss for the NCP.”
Maharashtra BJP Vice President Kirit Soumaiya said that the murder of Baba Siddiqui is a matter of concern. The government should form a special team and investigate it. He said, “A deep conspiracy is visible. Whoever is behind it, strict action should be taken against him.”
Baba Siddiqui was ambushed outside his office on Saturday night. As soon as he reached the office, the attackers came running and fired several rounds indiscriminately. He was hit by two-three bullets, one of which hit the chest. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi wrote on social media platform As the law and order situation of the metropolis is, may God give courage to Baba Siddiqui ji’s family to bear the loss.”
Mumbai Regional Congress Committee President Varsha Gaikwad wrote on Twitter that she was shocked by the incident. He said what is happening in the city? He has no words to react to this incident.
