Odisha Pradesh Congress President Bhakta Charan Das on Tuesday called for a statewide bandh in protest against the death of a student of Balasore Fakir Mohan Autonomous College. The student committed suicide by her teacher in protest against sexual harassment.
Despite 60 hours of treatment in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the 20 -year -old victim died late last night.
Das demanded the resignation of the state education minister, local MLA and MP on the death of a Balasore student.
Das told ANI, “Our demand is that the education minister, MLA and MP should resign and their party should expel the three. On the 17th, we have called for Odisha bandh and we appeal to all classes to support it.”
The Odisha Congress chief said that even after complaining on many forums, the victim did not get justice. He said, “The MLAs could have given him justice, but he did not do it … The MP also did not take up the matter.”
He said, “The student knocked on every door for justice and also filed an FIR. But she did not get justice. She also went to the MLA. Was it not her responsibility to take the matter seriously? If a little action was taken, the situation would not come that the student would have to give her life. The government did not realize that it was their responsibility.”
Rahul Gandhi targeted BJP
Earlier, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had described the death of a 20 -year -old student of Balasore as “the BJP’s organized murder” and accused the BJP of failing to protect the victim.
In a post on X, Leader of Opposition Gandhi wrote, “The death of a daughter fighting for justice in Odisha is no less than the murder of BJP’s system. The brave student raised voice against sexual harassment, but instead of getting justice, she was threatened, tortured and humiliated repeatedly. Those who had the responsibility to protect her, they were broken.”
The post reads, “As usual, the BJP’s system kept saving the accused and forced an innocent daughter to set fire. This is not a suicide; it is a well -planned murder by the system. Modi ji, Odisha or Manipur, the daughters of the country are burning, dying, dying. And you? You?
BJD chief Naveen Patnaik attributed the government
Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday strongly criticized the Odisha government and described his administration as a “failed system” and blamed a student of Balasore College responsible for his inaction for his death, who committed suicide by his teacher to protest against sexual harassment.
Patnaik said that his death was “an accident” but it was the result of the system that “kept quiet instead of helping.”
Naveen Patnaik said in a post on X, “It is even more disturbing to think about how a failed system can kill someone. The saddest thing is that it was not an accident, but a result of a system that kept quiet instead of helping. The girl struggling for justice finally closed her eyes.”
Emphasizing the alleged inaction of the administration, Patnaik said that despite repeated help by the student, the administration ignored him.
Patnaik said, “Showing a lot of courage, she wrote a letter to the college principal and informed about the sexual harassment that happened to her. Even after being ignored by the college administration, she did not give up. She went to the Higher Education Minister, Chief Minister’s Office and even a Union Minister to get justice. She also met the Balasore MP to share her suffering.”
While blaming the state government for the death of a student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Patnaik called it a “planned injustice”.
He said, “If a single person had taken responsibility and intervened personally, the girl could have been saved. She could not only lose her life due to physical trauma, but also lost due to negligence of the state government, who left her alone in her struggle. The developments show that it is not less than institutional betrayal – it is a well -planned injustice.”
He urged Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati to ensure action against criminals and those who failed to help him despite the desperate appeal of the victim.
He said, “I once again urge the Honorable Governor (@governorodisha) to ensure that not only the college administration, but also the people sitting in power are accountable, who did not take any action despite the arguments of the victim.”
Odisha CM expressed mourning
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief and assured the family of the deceased that all the culprits in this case would be punished as per the law.
CM Majhi said in a post on X, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Fakir Mohan Autonomas College student. Despite the government’s untiring efforts to fulfill all the responsibilities and the tireless efforts of the expert medical team, I could not save the life of the victim. I pray for the peace of his departed soul and pray to Lord Jagannath to give his family to tolerate this incomplete loss.”
The Chief Minister of Odisha insisted, “I assure the family of the deceased student that all the culprits in this matter will be punished hard as per the law. For this I have issued instructions to the officials personally. The government is fully standing with the family.”
Dharmendra Pradhan also responded
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also mourned his death. In a post on X, Pradhan wrote, “Baleshwar Fakirimohan, hearing the news of the death of Soumyashree Bishoi, a student undergoing in the autonomous college accident, has deeply grief and agony.
