Sukant Kumar Panigrahi was born on 25 May 1967 in Patanda village in Kandhamal district of Odisha. They come from an ordinary farmer family. His father, late Surendranath Panigrahi, a progressive farmer and a person with social thoughts, while mother Savitri Devi was interested in a housewife as well as social work. Growing up in family rites, Sukant saw and understood the problems of agriculture and society very closely since childhood. They are unmarried and dedicated their entire life to society and farming. Sukant Panigrahi was educated in various educational institutions in Odisha. He studied MSc in Agricultural Sciences from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology. He has so far raised voice in the committee on many burning issues related to the agricultural sector such as guarantee of MSP, quality of seeds, water crisis, digitization of rural markets and technical training to farmers. The committee’s reports have depth and practicality due to their suggestions and active participation.
