Opposition attacker stance on SIR and voter list disturbances in Bihar, but BJP in defense of Election Commission
He used to be the Sadar Darwaza of Parliament from where Parliament comes out and barely 500 meters away from the statue of Sardar Patel, there is an Election House, whose accountability is to conduct an accurate and non-contact election of public representatives in parliamentary democracy, which is the foundation of our Republic. This combination was done with some thought, it is not known, however it gives a symbol like a symbol. So, the Election Commission’s easy and easy relationship with the public or public representatives is the most important. But is its definition changing? Then the question is also that in recent years, why has the Election Commission directly come on the target of the opposition in lieu of the government? Now the target only seems to be the same.
The questions of the opposition are sharp, details and now the figures have started to rise after many previous elections and especially 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This, the Commission and the opposition came face to face from the Special intensive Revolutionary Campaign (SIR) for the voter identity released from June 25 in Bihar, whose draft voter list released on August 1 is missing about 66 lakh voters. There are many controversial questions about these missing voters and draft list. But first it should be seen what was in the August 11 memorandum. According to a post on Trinamool Congress Derek O’Brien’s X, it had four issues. One, file an FIR against former Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar for Gargadi in the voter list. Two, digitization of voter list should be done. Three, no SIR should be done now, SIR should not be imposed in opposition-emergent states (if the current voter list is filled with disturbances, the central government should resign). Four, no political party BLA-2 details (profiles, contacts and photos) will share with the Election Commission, as it will immediately reach the BJP. It is possible that such a spicy-dotted memorandum could have made it difficult for the Commission.

One result of this has also been that after the 2024 elections, there were some distance in opposition parties, which were seen at the dinner of the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the March 11 and its first Lok Sabha. In March from Parliament, the oldest NCP’s Sharad Pawar and Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge were not only, Sanjay Singh of Aam Aadmi Party, who went out of India block, was also seen shouting slogans. The Telugu Desam Party, which included the NDA on the issue of SIR, has also submitted detailed objections to the Commission.
On the other hand, the Commission has refused to express the details of 66 lakh people from the list released in the last February in the draft list of SIR in Bihar. He argues that he is not legally bound to give such a list. In fact, the apex court had asked the Commission to hand over the list of people who did not appear on the list during the last hearing on the petition of the Association for Democratic Rights (ADR), so that the truth of about 22 lakh people who have been dead and the rest of the people have been described as non-existence can be matched. In the earlier hearing, the court had said that if 15 such people were found alive, any order will be issued. But the Commission did not deny it only, but did not even consider the suggestion of the court to include Aadhaar card, voter ID in valid documents.
There are many flaws in the draft voter list. The Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav of RJD said that the house number of about three lakh voters is written at 000, hundreds of examples are such that 250, 300 people are registered at the same address and there are many who have died but their names are in the list. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has two voters I cards registered in Bankipur and Lakhisarai in Patna in the name of two assembly constituencies (by the name of Tejashwi, two voter cards were also found and the commission has also sent notices to them). The Commission has given them notice and asked them to tell the truth. Sinha says that he had filled the form of canceling the vote card with Bankipur but could not be done.
On all these allegations, BJP leaders say that it is not right to question the constitutional institution and the opposition is busy saving their vote bank of the intruders. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also said at the inauguration of Janaki temple in Sitamarhi that Lalu Prasad is trying to save the intruders. However, the Election Commission has not yet told that it has come to know that a foreigner has become a voter. It is also alleged that to make the investigation of the draft voter list difficult, the Commission has changed the online list and uploaded it to the format not in the PDF and mechanical investigation. They are increasing the doubt of the opposition. Now the court hearing is monitored.
Opposition leaders allege that the election was won by adding a large number of voters in Haryana and Maharashtra, on which there was a stir in Bihar to cut the names of adverse voters. But the BJP is defending the process of the Commission in the name of voter purification.
Rahul Gandhi is also talking about purifying the voter list. He recently raised a new controversy by stating the details of disturbances in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In a press conference on May 7, he showed through the data of the Chart and Voter List in a press conference that the BJP parliamentary seat lost in the remaining six assembly constituencies by 33,000 votes in the remaining six assembly constituencies in Mahadevpura assembly constituency of Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka. Then, he alleges that Mahadevpura was cheated by 1,00,250 votes. According to him, it includes 11,965 duplicate voters, 40,009 fake voters, 10,452 voters with the same address, 4,132 without photos or not visible voters, and 33,692 voters who misused Form 6 for new voter registration. The Commission is demanding them to give this in the affidavit, but Rahul says that the voter list belongs to the Commission, then why should they sign it. The controversy is increasing and perhaps this will decide the politics ahead.
