Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoyed the jungle safari in Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Junagadh district of Gujarat on Monday morning on the occasion of World Wildlife Day. After coming from Somnath, Modi rested the night in the forest guest house ‘Singh Sadan’ in Sasan.
On Sunday evening, he worshiped Lord Shiva at Somnath temple. It is the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas. From ‘Singh Sadan’, the Prime Minister went to Jungle Safari, along with some ministers and senior officials of the forest department. The Prime Minister will also preside over the seventh meeting of the Prime Minister, National Wildlife Board (NBWL) at Sasan Gir, headquarters of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.
NBWL has 47 members, including Army Chiefs, members of various states, representatives of NGOs working in the region, Chief Wildlife Warden and Secretary of various states. After the meeting, Modi will also talk to some women forest employees in Sasan.
A government release said that the central government has sanctioned more than Rs 2,900 crore under the ‘Project Lion’ for the protection of Asian lions. Gujarat is the only residence of these lions. The release states that currently, Asian lions live in 53 talukas in nine districts of Gujarat in about 30,000 square kilometers.
In addition, a ‘National Referral Center’ is being set up under a national project under a national project to prevent medical diagnosis and disease on more than 20.24 hectares of land in New Pipalya. The release said that in order to strengthen conservation efforts, a high -tech monitoring center and a state -of -the -art hospital have also been established for wildlife monitoring in Sasan.
PM Modi also visited Animal Rescue, Protection and Rehabilitation Center ‘Vantara’ located in the Reliance Jamnagar Refinery Complex on Sunday. This rescue center is dedicated to the welfare of captive elephants and wildlife, which provides shelter, rehabilitation and medical care to animals saved from misconduct and exploitation.
