Congress on Saturday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the Prime Minister, who travels abroad frequently, left for Kuwait while the people of violence-hit Manipur kept waiting for him.
Modi left for Kuwait on Saturday on a two-day visit to deepen ties in several areas including defense and trade.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on ‘X’, “The people of Manipur continue to wait, this is their fate because Mr. Modi is refusing to fix any date. Prime Minister Modi, who frequently visits foreign countries, left for Kuwait.
Congress has requested Modi several times to visit Manipur. The party says this will help in restoring peace and normalcy in the conflict-torn state.
On May 3 last year, violence had erupted in Manipur following a tribal solidarity march in the hill districts of the state in protest against the majority Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
Since then, more than 220 people from the Meitei and Kuki communities and security personnel have lost their lives in the violence.
