Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the country’s National Honor ‘Officer of the Star of Ghana’ for his “excellent politicism and influential global leadership”. Modi received the award from Ghana President John Droni Mahama on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister said in a post, “I feel proud to be honored with Ghana’s Star Officer of the Order.”
In his award -receiving speech, Modi said that this award is a matter of great pride and respect for him.
He said, “I politely accept this award on behalf of 140 crore Indians.” He dedicated it to the aspirations of the youth of both countries and the bright future, historical relations between Ghana and India and their rich cultural traditions and diversity.
He said in a post, “This honor is also a responsibility; continue working to strengthen India-Ghana friendship. India will always stand with the people of Ghana and will continue to contribute as a reliable friend and development partner.”
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release that the award was presented to the Prime Minister for his “excellent politicism and influential global leadership”.
Thanking the people and the government of Ghana for this special goodwill, the Prime Minister said that “shared democratic values and traditions of the two countries will continue to nurture the partnership.”
He said that the award “deepens friendship between the two countries and puts a new responsibility on them to further bilateral relations.” According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi expressed confidence that Ghana’s “historic” state visit would give new pace to India-Ghana relations.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, “This is a proof of the deep and long-term relations of India-Ghana.” Earlier, Modi held extensive talks with Mahamaya, after which India and Ghana extended their relations to the level of widespread partnership.
The Prime Minister is in Ghana in the first phase of his visit to five countries. This is Ghana’s first Prime Minister’s visit from India in three decades.
