Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday claimed a comment from Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would easily bow down in front of US President Donald Trump’s trade fee deadline.
Commerce and Industry Minister Goyal said on Friday that India does not compromise a trade agreement on a deadline basis and will accept the proposed trade agreement with the US only when it is fully finalized, ended properly and will be in the national interest.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, posted this statement on ‘X’, “Piyush Goyal can beat his chest as much as you want, look at my words, Modi will easily bow down in front of the trump fee deadline.”
US President Trump imposed an additional 26 percent counter -duty duty on products imported from India. However, a few days later it was postponed for 90 days i.e. till July 9. Meanwhile, 10 percent of the original fee levied by the US is still applicable.
Before the end of July 9, India and America are trying to finalize an interim trade agreement before the end of July 9. For this, several rounds of talks have been held at the level of officers and ministers of both sides.
