Damodar Naik, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa unit, said on Saturday that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is keeping an eye on the situation after the stampede at the temple.
The opposition party Congress condoled the incident, while the Trinamool Congress demanded that the government order an inquiry to decide the responsibility of the stampede and take necessary action.
Six people were killed and 30 other people were injured when a stampede occurred during a celebration at Sri Lairai Devi Temple in Shirgaon in North Goa.
Naik told reporters outside the Goa Medical College and the hospital here that the condition of six hospitals admitted to the hospital is critical. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take stock of the situation.
The BJP leader said, “The PMO is personally monitoring the situation of Goa. The Center has assured the state of all possible help. ”
The opposition party, while condoing the incident, said that medical and financial assistance should be provided to the victims.
Amarnath Panjikar, in -charge of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, said that the party is standing in solidarity with the families, devotees and the entire community of Shirgaon.
He said, “We request the state government to provide full support to the Devasthan Committee so that the remaining four days Lairai Jatra can be kept safe and smoothly. Millions of devotees come to Shirgaon for this Jatra. ”
Panjikar said that during these ceremonies, adequate security and mob management should be done to avoid such accidents in future and arrangements should be made to take immediate steps to deal with the emergency.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress demanded the government to order an inquiry into the incident so that the responsibility of the stampede could be decided and necessary action can be taken.
Trinamool national spokesperson Trajano D’Melory said that the party expresses sympathy to the victims of the victims. He claimed that according to eyewitnesses, due to negligence of the stampede law and order system.
He said, “Trinamool demands that a commission be set up to investigate the incident so that responsibility can be fixed and necessary steps can be taken.” The government should give the ex -gratia amount immediately to the victims. ‘
