Officials in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh have issued notices against more than 24 Muslims to protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 and have asked them to fill a bond of Rs 2-2 lakh.
Superintendent of Police (City) Satyanarayana Prajapat told reporters on Saturday that more than 24 people have been given notice in this regard and said that the police have identified more people based on CCTV footage.
On the police report, notices were issued by City Magistrate Vikas Kashyap and they were asked to fill the bond of Rs 2 lakh each as preventive action after appearing in court on 16 April.
These people were found protesting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and were found wearing black cats on their arms during the last Friday prayers of Ramadan in various mosques here on March 28.
Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday and said that the proposed law is not against Muslims or is not intended to hurt their religious sentiments, but its objective is to improve the functioning of Waqf properties, to remove complications, ensure transparency and start technology -related management.
