Barnala, 22 December (IANS). Aam Aadmi Party candidate Gurmeet Singh Vaba has registered a spectacular victory from Ward No. 6 in Handiya Nagar Panchayat of Barnala.
Gurmeet Singh has got 204 votes while his opponent BJP candidate has got 142 votes. In this way Gurmeet Singh has won the election by a margin of 62 votes.
A few days ago, Gurmeet Singh left BJP and joined Aam Aadmi Party. He has also been the district president of BJP three times and has also been a councilor from Handiyaya twice.
After the victory, while talking to the media, he said that this victory is the victory of the people. I express my gratitude to every section of the society for this victory. I will try to live up to the trust that the public has placed in me. My aim is to give priority to the development of Handiya ward and work in the interest of the public.
Whereas in Handiya Nagar Panchayat elections, independent candidate Veerpal Kaur won from Ward No. 1 by 80 votes. AAP candidate Rupi Kaur won from Ward No. 2 by 40 votes. Independent candidate Manju Rani has won from Ward No. 3. AAP candidate Charno has won from ward number 4.
AAP candidate Reshma Election has won from Ward No. 5. Congress party candidate Kuldeep Tajpuria won the election from ward number 8 by one vote. Whereas from Ward No. 9, AAP party candidate Visava Singh won by 132 votes. AAP candidate Harpreet Kaur has hoisted the flag of victory from ward number 10. Ward number 11 AAP candidate Sarabjit Kaur has won the election. Ward No. 12 AAP candidate Balbir Singh and Ward No. 13 AAP candidate Amar Das have won.
Voting for 5 municipal corporations in Punjab as well as 44 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in the state began at 7 am today and ended at 4 pm. A total of 3,336 candidates are in the fray in the state. This time a total of 37.32 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the elections, which includes 19.55 lakh male and 17.76 lakh female voters.
