Chandigarh, December 7 (IANS). Punjab Governor and Administrator of Union Territory Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday inaugurated the Drug Free Rangla Punjab campaign in the state.
The event was organized on the martyrdom day of the ninth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Tegh Bahadur. The national initiative Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan organized under the leadership of the Ministry of Social Justice was also taken forward. A major highlight of the campaign is the ‘People’s Walk Against Drugs’, organized in partnership with the Red Cross Society. It is led by social activist and writer, Khushwant Singh.
The event, which will run from Saturday, December 7 to December 11, will inspire citizens from different walks of life to unite against drug addiction. This padyatra will start from Vyas village, home of great sprinter Sardar Fauja Singh, on December 10 and will end at Bathe village in Jalandhar district in the evening. On 11th December, the participants will go from Bathe to Jang-e-Azadi Memorial in Kartarpur. Under this, the participants will give the message of unity and solidarity in the ongoing campaign against drugs. The Governor has also confirmed individual participation in the concluding day of the Padayatra, emphasizing its importance in inspiring collective action.
He said, “When I stepped into Punjab, I saw that the impact of drug addiction has increased significantly among the people here. A lot of efforts have already been made, but more efforts are required. I thought I would join this campaign. I told him that I will also try to walk with him and join this campaign on the 10th. However, I have the experience of meeting big leaders while in England, where he is respected. is done, but here I am 108 kilometers I will definitely try to make this campaign successful by connecting with them, the public and the students as much as possible. This is not the first time I am doing this, I have made such efforts earlier also. “
He further said, “Many people in Punjab have tried to spread awareness on this issue at their own level. I think the biggest help in this can come from our mothers and sisters, because if any girl or child in the family is If there is a loss, only a mother or sister can understand that pain. I think we need to connect them with this campaign. Earlier our family structure was strong, in which we paid attention to every child, but now. Due to lack of time we children do not have time There is a need to make the family aware about this issue so that their time is spent in the right direction. People who win medals are mostly free from drugs, and this gives children a chance to do something in a good environment. Therefore, we should work towards involving children in sports and other activities.”
He said, “I have discussed with village committees and public representatives after coming to Punjab, and we all together are trying to find a solution to this issue. Here we are working together with BSF, police and administration So that this problem can be controlled, we are also trying to get cooperation from Raj Bhavan. We have decided that financial assistance will be given to them so that they can support us in this campaign. The main objective is that we youth Free the generation from drugs, so that they can contribute to the development of the country. For this, we will have to get cooperation from all sections of the society. In the coming days, we will also plan a campaign by meeting various religious leaders, so that More and more people can join this campaign.”
