Vladivostok, Sep 5 (IANS) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said he likes Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate in the upcoming US presidential election, and praised her “funny laugh”.
Attending the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, the Russian leader said he admired the “smile” of Harris, whose mother was Indian and is the first Asian American and African American candidate for the top US post, RT reported.
Harris “laughs so eloquently” that it shows “everything is going well for her.”
he said in response to a question at the forum’s plenary session on whether he had a preferred candidate in the election now that Biden, whom he had earlier supported, has dropped out of the contest.
He was also asked whether he would call to congratulate the winner of the election in November.
Putin said it has been a long time since he had direct contact with Western European or American leaders.
He said it is not Russia’s job to choose its “favorite” in the US presidential election but that of American voters.
He said that earlier he had supported Biden, but now he has withdrawn from the race. Since Biden has asked his supporters to support Harris, Moscow will do the same.
He said Harris’s positive attitude shows that she will avoid imposing sanctions on Russia like former US President Donald Trump.
“Ultimately, the decision is up to the American people and we will respect their final decision,” he said.
