New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited Jammu and Kashmir where elections are due. He said that the Congress will put so much pressure on the central government that it will have to grant full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. BJP national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, while talking to IANS, termed it as “ignorance” on the part of the Congress leader.
Shazia Ilmi said that the way Rahul Gandhi has said that he will give statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, this promise was made when Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory. Rahul Gandhi has travelled a lot across the country with copies of the Constitution, but still he is speaking ignorant things. He does not even know that granting statehood is not within the jurisdiction of any state government.
The BJP spokesperson further said that Rahul Gandhi has made a reprehensible statement about Dogra identity, the Maharaja due to whom Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of India. Rahul Gandhi has insulted the king of this region, the Dogra ruler, who was popular among both Hindus and Muslims. He was a Dogra Hindu king in a Muslim-dominated region.
Let us tell you that earlier on September 4, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, fiercely targeted the BJP. He promised the people of Jammu and Kashmir to restore the state status. Not only this, Rahul Gandhi also claimed that a Congress coalition government will be formed in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress MP said, “For the first time, the rights of the people were snatched away by making a state of India a union territory. This has never happened before in the history of India. First of all, the state status of Jammu and Kashmir will have to be returned, because not only your state has been snatched, your rights, your property, everything is being snatched from you. In the year 1947, we removed the kings and formed a democratic government, we gave the Constitution to the country. Today there is a king sitting in Jammu and Kashmir, his name is LG. But, he is the king who is snatching your property from you and giving it to people from outside.”
Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP and said, “Our first step will be to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. We wanted that you get the statehood before the elections and then elections should be held, but the BJP does not want this. Whether the BJP wants it or not, the India Alliance will put so much pressure that Jammu and Kashmir will have to be given the statehood.”
