Jammu, Sep 4 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will launch the assembly election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. He will address two election rallies in the Union Territory.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address one rally each in the first phase of the three-phase Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Congress sources said that Rahul Gandhi will board a special plane and reach Jammu airport by 10 am.
After this, Rahul Gandhi will leave for Sangaldan in Ramban district by helicopter. Here he will address a Congress rally in support of party candidate Vikar Rasool Wani at 11 am.
Let us tell you that Sangaldan area is a part of Banihal assembly constituency of Ramban district of Jammu division. There was no consensus between Congress and National Conference (NC) on seat sharing for Banihal seat. Due to this, both the parties have fielded their candidates from here.
Let us tell you that after addressing a rally in Sangaldan, Rahul Gandhi will leave for the Dooru assembly constituency in Anantnag district of Kashmir. Party sources said that at 12:30 pm Rahul Gandhi will address a rally in support of candidate GA Mir in the Dooru assembly constituency.
Three former state presidents of Congress are contesting in the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. These include Vikar Rasool Wani, GA Mir and Pirzada Saeed. Voting for the first phase will be held on September 18.
Congress and National Conference have formed an alliance for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. National Conference is contesting on 52 seats and Congress on 31 seats. The alliance has left two seats for CPI(M) and Panthers Party. Both the parties will contest on one seat each.
There are 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of these, 47 are in Kashmir and 43 in Jammu. Here nine seats are reserved for ST and seven for SC.
