Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Ahmedabad on Friday morning as part of his two -day Gujarat tour, during which he will hold a meeting with party leaders focusing on the 2027 assembly elections.
After reaching the airport, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha left for the Gujarat Congress headquarters in the Paladi area of the city.
The party said in a statement that they first met senior leaders of the party including former state Congress presidents and former opposition leaders in the assembly.
Later, he will attend a meeting with members of the State Political Affairs Committee. In a statement on Thursday, the Congress said that Gandhi had earlier said that the party would win the 2027 Gujarat assembly elections and he would visit the state to start election work.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat has been under BJP rule since 1995.
The media release said that on Friday evening, Gandhi will meet the district and city presidents of the Congress and the taluka and the municipal heads. He will interact with representatives of social organizations between 5 and 7 pm.
Gandhi will address party workers in Ahmedabad on Saturday and will leave for Delhi in the afternoon the same day.
The upcoming All India Congress Committee (AICC) session is going to be held in Ahmedabad on 8-9 April. This is going to happen in the state after 64 years. Party General Secretary KC Venugopal visited Gujarat last Tuesday to take stock of the preparations for the meeting.
In the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections, the Congress got only 17 seats out of 182 seats in the state, but after the resignation of five MLAs, the number of party in the House was reduced to 12.
