Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attended the ‘Shiksha Nyaya Samvad’ program held in Darbhanga during his one -day visit to Bihar. During this, while addressing the students, he launched a scathing attack on the current power system of the country and reiterated the demand for reservation in ethnic census and private educational institutions.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that 90 percent of the country’s population, including Dalits, backward, extremely backward and tribals, is being deliberately deprived of education and power. He said, “24 hours Dalits, backward, extremely backward and tribals are tortured in the country. They are also stopped from the system of education. This injustice will no longer do.”
Three major demands of Congress
Rahul Gandhi clearly placed three major demands before the government on behalf of the Congress during the program:
A nationwide ethnic census should be conducted, just as it has been done in Telangana.
Provision of reservation in private colleges and universities should be implemented.
A major change should be brought in government policies to ensure the participation of the exploited classes.
He said that these classes are around 90 percent of the total population of India, but their participation between the government and bureaucracy is almost zero. “This inequality should not be endured anymore,” he said.
Direct attack on BJP
Rahul Gandhi also directly targeted the BJP government. He said, “We had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct an ethnic census in the name of the Constitution. When the public was under pressure, he announced it, but in reality the BJP is anti -democracy and the constitution. This government is of the rich, and 90 percent works against the poor and backward classes.”
Students got confidence
Referring to the plight of the students living in hostels, Rahul Gandhi said, “I know what happens in these hostels. I assure you that when our government is formed, these circumstances will change. You will get the right to education, respect and participation.” He further said, “The police tried to stop us, but your strength was behind me, so no one can stop us. This is your voice, which is echoing in the country today.”
