National News Desk, Will Congress come to power in Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 or not? The answer to this question will be known only after voting on October 5 and counting of votes on 8. At present, Congress is busy releasing the list of candidates. Out of 90 seats of Haryana Assembly, candidates have been declared on 41 seats. Candidates for the remaining 49 seats are also going to be announced.
As soon as 41 names of Congress candidates were announced in Haryana, there was a stampede. A wave of resignations started. Many leaders left the party and joined another party. If the rebellion in Congress continues to grow, then the dream of returning to power in Haryana after ten years will remain unfulfilled this time too.
Factionalism in Haryana Congress
Brijpal and Pinky Chhappar have left the party due to the nomination of Renu Bala in Sadhaura assembly constituency. Former minister Ramkumar Valmiki has decided to contest as an independent in Nilokheri assembly constituency. Prem Hingakhedi got angry due to the candidature of Ramkaran Kala, who came from JJP, in Shahbad assembly constituency. Jitendra Hooda can contest as an independent due to Induraj Singh Narwal getting the ticket in Baroda. Dr. Kapoor Narwal, who was close to former CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda, even left the party because of Narwal. Many leaders including Parmendra Singh Dhul got angry due to the candidature of Vinesh Phogat in Julana.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda vs Shailja Kumari
Factionalism among Congress leaders cannot be ruled out in Haryana Mahasangram 2024. The political conflict between former CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Sirsa MP, big Dalit face and Congress General Secretary Shailaja Kumari has come out in the open. Shailaja Kumari has staked claim to the CM post while Bhupendra Singh Hooda is having his way in deciding the party candidate.
Seeing no alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party, the Congress released two lists of 32 candidates on the night of 6 September 2024, in which 28 sitting MLAs were also fielded. It is reported that in the first list of Congress candidates, Bhupendra Singh Hooda has more influence than Kumari Selja. 28 leaders of Bhupendra Singh Hooda and 4 leaders of Kumari Selja faction have been given tickets.
Here, in an interview to the media, Kumari Shailja targeted Bhupendra Singh Hooda and said that he should decide in his own house who will be the Chief Minister. In the interview, Shailja called herself a contender for the post of CM. Earlier, during the election campaign, Shailja had even said that wherever she goes, the workers call her CM.
Congress’ position in Haryana elections
BJP formed the government in Haryana by winning the assembly elections of 2014 and 2019. Congress has been out of power in Haryana for the last 10 years. In the last election, BJP won 40 seats and Congress won 31 seats. BJP formed the government by forming an alliance with JJP which won 10 seats. In this election, Congress wanted to form an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party, but things did not work out. Due to lack of consensus on seat sharing, Congress is contesting all 90 seats on its own. However, Rahul Gandhi wanted an alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.
