Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. Lt. Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena administered the oath of office to Rekha Gupta and her Council of Ministers at the ceremony.
Six other ministers including Pravesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh were also sworn in.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister J.P. Rekha Gupta is familiar with the issues and problems of the national capital due to working in various organizational positions in Delhi and working as a councilor. She will be the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi. In the national capital, BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have been women Chief Ministers.
Rekha Gupta, an elected MLA from Shalimar Bagh seat, has been the general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and a member of its National Executive Committee. In these roles, he launched several campaigns for the welfare of marginalized communities and women.
Rekha Gupta started his political journey from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
After studying from Daulat Ram College at Delhi University, she became the chairman of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1996-97 and actively raised the issues of students. In 2007, as a councilor from North Pitampura, he worked on the development of basic facilities such as libraries and parks in the region. He has also studied LLB and is the founder of an NGO AAS. She lost the election of Mayor from AAP’s Shelley Oberoi in 2023.
50 -year -old Rekha Gupta, who was the first MLA, was preferred against senior leaders in Delhi BJP because the party wanted a female leader to take over the post.
She is known for keeping a lower profile than some other leaders in Delhi BJP, her name was announced as the next CM of Delhi after intensive speculation about the possible option. The results of the Delhi assembly elections were declared on 8 February.
The BJP is emphasizing on women’s empowerment, in such a situation, the promotion of Rekha Gupta will help the party to strengthen its credibility among women. She will be the only woman among the current BJP Chief Ministers.
After being elected the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Rekha Gupta thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party leadership and the people of Delhi for the responsibility given to him and said that every moment of his life would be spent in fulfilling this responsibility.
Rekha Gupta said that this is a “miracle” and a transformative chapter for women in politics. Talking to the media, Gupta vowed to justify corrupt persons and said that they would have to calculate every rupee misused.
He said, “This is a miracle, this is a new inspiration and a new chapter. If I can become the Chief Minister, it means that the paths are open for all women. Whoever is corrupt, he has one rupee one rupee. Will have to account for. “

Rekha Gupta said, “This is a big responsibility. I thank Prime Minister Modi and BJP High Command for expressing confidence in me. I will fulfill my responsibility with full honesty. Rekha Gupta was elected the leader of the BJP Legislature Party at a meeting of newly elected MLAs on Wednesday. The BJP won the Aam Aadmi Party from power by winning 48 seats under the historic mandate.
