Kolkata, October 8 (IANS). The fast unto death of seven junior doctors in Kolkata’s Esplanade continued on Tuesday. Today is the fourth day of the doctors’ fast.
Due to Mahapanchami on Tuesday, both senior and junior doctors have organized various protest programs throughout the day.
Seven junior doctors are continuing their fast unto death at Esplanade in central Kolkata, while junior doctors across the state observed a 12-hour symbolic hunger strike from 9 am on Tuesday.
The special thing is that senior doctors and representatives of nursing and health workers also joined the junior doctors in this symbolic protest.
Apart from these protests, there will be a mega rally from 4.30 pm, which will start from College Square and proceed to the fast-unto-death stage at Esplanade. All sections of the medical fraternity will be represented in the rally.
The junior doctors appealed to the common people to hold a 12-hour symbolic hunger strike as well as join the mega rally as an expression of solidarity.
A representative of the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF) said, “We have been able to take our protest to this extent only because of the widespread support we have received from all sections of the society. Therefore, we are requesting people to They should join us in this protest on Tuesday.”
Junior doctors had started a unique protest since Saturday evening, in which some doctors have started a fast unto death, while other doctors have withdrawn their decision to stop work and returned to their medical service duties.
Initially six junior doctors (three women and three men) started the hunger strike. His seventh companion also joined him on Sunday evening.
